Justin Earl Majid  –  CV

Born: Mackay, 1984
Language: Kala Lagaw Ya, central & Western Torres Strait

Justin is descended from Torres Strait Islander (Boigu, Badu and Horn Islands), Aboriginal and European heritage and grew up on Horn Island.  He has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally and is regarded as an upcoming Islander artist to watch.  Justin’s works are rich in symbolism and local legend; his prints depict an extraordinary variety of sea creatures and maritime heroes.

Crocodiles, dugongs, hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, skates, crabs, octopi and many species of fish are depicted swimming in ornate fields of decorative patterns that are specific to various families and regions. These creation stories are the heart and soul of Torres Strait Islander culture.
