Description
In recent years the population of deger (dugong) around Far Nth Qld has dropped because of the drastic change to their natural environment and feeding grounds. To slow down this misfortune the KuKu Yalanji people have created a grace period from the hunting of this once plentiful animal. Indigenous people are primarily blamed for the loss in numbers of the dugongs although they have lived with this animal far longer than the arrival of western civilization.
