Artist’s statement:
Ibei (a species of surgeonfish) is an oily, fat fish and one of my grandmother’s favourite fish to cook and eat. The distinctive characteristics of the surgeonfish are its scalpel-like modified scales on either side of the tail. They are dangerously sharp and can seriously injure if handled carelessly.
