Description
A vertical stake is fastened to the coral reef in shallow water which secures a large running loop that is formed from a strip of coconut branch and placed in a notch on the stake. The other end of the rope-like coconut strip is then fastened to a large stone. Once a tern spots the small fish (tup) that is tied up and used as bait beneath the loop, it dives through the water and is snared by the loop as it rises towards the surface.
