Description
Indigenous people learn from a young age the different calls and sounds that Sapur (fruit bats) make, particularly their call when they see a snake in their mango tree. Sapur live in abundance throughout the Torres Straits and North Queensland playing a vital role in the ecosystem. They eat pollen, nectar and fruits, pollinating and dispersing native tree seeds. Along with being edible, Torres Strait islanders believe that sapur flesh can help cure asthma.
